Expert Attributes

Expert Attributes is the application-level workspace for finding and reviewing standardized Attribute definitions used by Actualog categories and products.

An Attribute describes one characteristic such as material, nominal diameter, color, or operating pressure. Its definition controls the data type and can also reference a measure, allowed values, or other validation rules. Product values are stored separately from the shared definition.

Search and filters

  • Search matches attribute name and description.
  • Attribute type limits the result to Numeric, List, Text, or Bool attributes.
  • List value source appears after selecting List and limits the result to Manual values or Reference Collection attributes.
  • Sort by Name orders the definitions alphabetically.
  • Sort by Attribute type groups definitions by their data type.
  • Sort by Group helps review organizational placement.
  • Sort by Categories helps find broadly or narrowly used attributes.
  • Groups opens a selector where one or more Attribute Groups can be selected. The filter matches attributes linked to any selected group.
  • From Library limits the result to reusable library attributes.
  • Order changes ascending or descending order.

Use the search button after changing the query or filters.

Quality checks

Use Quality to switch the list into a focused data-governance view.

  • All attributes shows the normal Expert Attributes list.
  • Possible duplicates shows attributes whose normalized names look similar enough to require comparison before cleanup.

The check reads the current database directly. It does not apply a change by itself. Use row actions to open the available review or comparison flow, then apply only operations that pass the preview checks.

Applied cleanup operations are recorded in Admin -> Data -> Data Quality History.

What the list is for

Use the page to find an existing definition before proposing another one, inspect where an attribute is used, compare similar names, and open available details or editing actions according to your role.

The From Library filter is useful when selecting standardized reusable definitions. It does not mean that non-library attributes are invalid; it distinguishes curated library entries from other attribute records.

Library status is a governance decision, not a usage counter. An attribute used in one category can still be a library attribute when it is the approved reusable definition. An attribute that appears in several category templates because of inheritance or unit overrides does not automatically become a library attribute.

When export is available, select rows or the applied result set and queue a structured export. Apply filters before exporting all matching records.

When the export is ready, use Download export in the notification or open Expert -> Exports. Expert Attribute export results are not stored under the selected company workspace.

Common mistakes

  • Do not create a second definition when the Library already has the same business meaning.
  • Do not treat the Attribute definition as a product's actual value.
  • Do not infer category requirements from the definition alone; required/optional use belongs to a category template.
  • Similar names can still have different data types, measures, value lists, or intended meaning. Open the record before deciding they are duplicates.
